The decision we have to make is whether we let it control and define who we are, or whether we fight against it and try to get it under control, realizing that sometimes it is impossible to completely destroy it. It can be drug addiction, alcoholism, anxiety, depression, hatred, jealousy, revenge, and much more. ![]() I think the main takeaway from this song is that we all struggle with an “animal” at some point in our lives. He’s hoping that the animal can be tamed but ends by saying that he has now become the animal. The singer is hoping that the animal is not his real self, but rather a sickness that has taken over him. ![]() It is becoming more powerful by the minute and threatening to take control of him. The animal once again symbolizes the singer’s internal struggle. He has gotten to the point of desperation and his life hell. The singer is crying for help once again, saying that he can’t control his problem by himself. “ Somebody help me through this nightmare He cries out in desperation for someone to help him because he can’t control this problem on his own. He has tried to convince himself that it is not there or that he can get rid of it, but it still remains within him. He can’t escape from the problem because it is an internal struggle. We can choose to accept that it is there and take steps to get it under control, or we can ignore it until it is too late and let it take over our identity. We all have “animals” inside of us that need to be tamed or put under control. The animal is the demon that has plagued him for a long time. He has given up the hope of fixing his situation, and can only hope that this problem will not define his identity. The singer is expressing that he no longer cares if people are judging him because of his problem. This is the chorus of the song and one of my all time favorites. No one will ever change this animal I have become “ So what if you can see the darkest side of me He is crying out for help from someone else because he can no longer control his situation. He has tried to escape this very bad situation many times, but has been unsuccessful. However, I think it can apply to all of us in one way or another. This song is about the lead singer of Three Days Grace, Adam Gontier, describing his experience with drug addiction and rehab. Check out the music video down below lyrics are listed below the video. We all have a dark side and sometimes we just need to accept that and get it under control rather than ignore it and let it define us.
